Staircase Pressurization Systems

Emax Control is a specialist in design, fabricate and troubleshooting of all kinds of staircase pressurization systems and their control panels.

A staircase pressurization system forces air into fire stairways when fire occurs. There are many reasons for this system to be implemented such as:-

1) Maintain positive pressure inside stairways
2) Keeping smoke away from stairways

When the pressure inside the stairway is greater than its surroundings, smoke is prevented from entering the fire escape route. This makes it easier for humans to navigate and escape from the burning building.

The Schneider ATV310 and ATV610 inverters are perfect for such application. They come with built-in analog inputs where a pressure sensor can be connected. The fans therefore can be set to modulate within a preset pressure set point. This is important because excessive pressure could make it difficult for occupants to open fire doors leading to the fire staircase.

Secondly, both the inverters comes with a “fault inhibit” function. According to the manual notes of ATV610:-

In rare cases, the monitoring functions of the drive may be unwanted because they impede the purpose of the application. A typical example is a smoke extractor fan operating as a part of a fire protection system. If a fire occurs, the smoke extractor fan should operate as long as possible, even if, for example, the permissible ambient temperature of the drive is exceeded. In such applications, damage to or destruction of the device may be acceptable as collateral damage, for example, to keep other damage from occurring whose hazard potential is assessed to be more severe.

Built-in functions like this enables both the ATV310 and ATV610 to operate under designed situation for maximum performance. Apart from staircase pressurization systems, they are also widely used in booster pump and transfer pump applications.
